Chandler Mill Greenway

In partnership with Brandywine Red Clay Alliance and Kennett Township, we have begun work on a $2.7 million project to stabilize existing road infrastructure while creating new bike and pedestrian facilities in Kennett Township.

WHERE

The half-mile Chandler Mill Greenway will be built along the newly reconstructed road bank of Chandler Mill Road, from West Hillendale Road in the north to the Chandler Mill Nature Preserve in the south.

The northern most segment will connect the Falcon’s Lair community to the Parrish Trail, Pennock Park and the Kennett Bike Park, which is also currently under construction. The second segment will connect Round Hill Road to a new, accessible overlook on the Chandler Mill Nature Preserve, with views of the historical ruins of the Chandler Mill.

Future phases of Greenway construction will also connect Kennett Township residents into the Borough of Kennett Square.

STATUS: UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Project work to be completed includes:

  • Comprehensive streambank and roadway stabilization along several sections of the West Branch of the Red Clay Creek.

  • Native tree plantings, stormwater management, and riparian buffers along the streambank.

  • A new accessible overlook at Chandler Mill Nature Preserve.

  • Completion of Kennett Greenway segment linking to Kennett Borough and Kennett Bike Park via Parrish Trail.

  • Continued future connections to Southern Kennett Greenway extending to Auburn Valley State Park in Delaware.
